Food is a big draw for the 48,000 people attending the Oregon Country Fair.
The sounds of country fair preparation are one element of tradition. The crank of a drill; the smack of a mosquito.
For the coffee and pastry booth “Rosie’s Just Desserts” it’s another tasty year as usual.
"The chocolate halpia is very good, with the works."
This is Shon Cook, currently stringing lights across around their festive sign. He says the booth’s owner, Rosie Brookshier, has been attending since the fair’s second year. She’s had a booth since 2001.
Outside of the fair Rosie is a pastry chef on the Oregon coast in Bandon. Cook explains that despite changes in her life, the fair has always been a constant.
"Before she did this booth she was a stained glass booth, and then as her profession changed she was able to change what she does at the fair. It's very important to her."
Cook is Rosie’s son in law, and he says the family expects to keep the fair experience going in the family.
"My wife and her sister will probably eventually take it over. That's our eventual plans."
You can find Just Desserts by Rosie on East 13 on the way to the main stage.
