Update On Lane Metro

Recorded on: May 16th, 2014
Air Date: May 19th, 2014

City Club members and guests will hear about the future of economic development in Lane County with one of the most experienced experts on the subject on May 16. State Representative John Lively will discuss the history and the future of the Lane Metro Partnership. He will relate some success stories and provide an update on the group’s status.

The Eugene/Springfield Metropolitan Partnership was launched in 1985, when founding members included Lively, the Mayor of Springfield; Brian Obie, the Mayor of Eugene, and County Commissioner Peter DeFazio. Lively, who served on the partnership’s board for 15 years, was its second president. He was Executive Director from 1989 to 1998.

Lively now serves as an Economic Development Specialist for the partnership. He will discuss the timing of actions expected during the transition as the cities of Eugene and Springfield and their Chambers of Commerce work with Lane County to agree to a new regional economic development model moving forward.

Following Lively’s presentation, the first questioner will be Anne Fifield, a principal economist at Blue Mountain Economics. She was formerly a Senior Economist with ECONorthwest, Fifield has analyzed economic impacts of public policies, public investments in infrastructure and the effects of tax incentives.
