Wyden Calls For 'Grassroots Juggernaut' To Preserve Abortion Access

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden says he’s calling for a “grassroots juggernaut” to protect women’s access to abortion services.

With the 2020 elections on the horizon, the Oregon Democrat says getting people involved at all levels of state and federal government can keep it from taking control of women’s health and reproductive rights.

"All these politicians are always talking about how there’s too much government in the lives of Americans," Wyden tells KLCC.  "They’re plenty happy to put government in control of women’s bodies, and I’m going to fight it all the way.”

Wyden’s remarks follow highly restrictive abortion bans in states like Alabama and Georgia. Activists on both sides of the debate say it could ultimately be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court, which President Donald Trump has stacked more to the right with his judicial picks.

The 1973 Roe versus Wade decision made abortion legal nationwide.
