A Eugene protest Saturday saw upwards of 300 participants and attracted the attention of counter protestors and the Eugene police.
It started as a rally at the federal courthouse for Eugene residents to stand in solidarity with protestors in Portland. But by the end of the night, it was a full-fledged riot that made its way through downtown and west Eugene.
After resisting counter protestors at the courthouse, the group of about 300 marched to the Lane County Jail to show support for inmates demanding better conditions to stop the spread of COVID-19. They made a loop to Broadway and vandalized businesses in their path, including Wells Fargo, Whole Foods, and Elk Horn Brewery.
Eugene police became involved and arrested some protestors, while shouting warnings to disperse over a loudspeaker and utilizing tear gas which marchers and reporters were hit by.
