10 Barrel Pays Homage To Last American Blockbuster Video With Commemorative Beer

10 Barrel Brewing

The last Blockbuster Video in America is officially in Bend, after several Alaskan stores closed this year.  And soon, proud residents can drink to its success.  KLCC’s Brian Bull explains.

10 Barrel Brewing in Bend says it’s releasing a limited-edition beer called “The Last Blockbuster”.  It’s a black ale with nuances of red licorice, which the company says pairs perfectly with popcorn or chocolate.

Dan Montgomery is the assistant manager of the video store. He describes the beer’s label.

“It’s in the classic Blockbuster blue and yellow. And it has the Blockbuster logo on it," he tells KLCC.

Blockbuster Video's manager, Sandi Harding, samples the commemorative beer at 10 Barrel's facilities in Bend.

"I think it’s pretty cool, I think it’s a great way to get the community involved because having the most breweries per capita, makes sense for us to pair with one of the biggest breweries in town.”

10 Barrel and Blockbuster will officially release the beer at a block party in Bend on September 21st.  Proceeds will benefit local animal shelters.
