The members of Lane Chamber Choir have never met face-to-face. The pandemic has forced the Lane Community College students to sing to a computer screen. A recent performance pays tribute to an ensemble determined to sing together-- however they can.

When Choir Director Matthew Svoboda found a piece for vocal ensemble called “Back To Zoom Choir!” he thought, “‘That’s brilliant,’ cause everywhere in the world, people are dealing with this in choir.”
Each member recorded their parts. Here’s soloist Kate Ferguson singing, “How long will it be before we can meet again and sing safely together…la lala la”
Svoboda used an editing tool to blend each separate voice into a musical round. More members join in singing, “Here I am again singing to the screen, on my own at home, with no one else around.”

A multi-media design student produced a video featuring the entire choir singing side by side--at least virtually.

Back to Zoom Choir! Lyrics:
"Here I am again singing to the screen on my own at home, with no one else around.
"I can see about twenty-four people on this page, but some of them turned off their cameras. How long will it be before we can meet again and sing safely together?"
