In the Realm of the Spirit: Work by Maude I. Kerns
Maude Kerns Art Center presents "In the Realm of the Spirit: Work by Maude I. Kerns," opening on Friday, January 12, with an Opening Reception from 5 - 7 pm. The exhibit features the non-objective art of Kerns from the Art Center's own collection, private collectors, and archival work on loan from the Lane County History Museum. The exhibit focuses on the correspondence between non-objective painter Ralph Scarlett and Kerns and features work never exhibited before.
In conjunction with “In the Realm of the Spirit,” the Art Center will feature a documentary which includes details about the founding of the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, the forerunner of the Guggenheim Museum, titled Betrayal: The Life and Art of Rudolf Bauer. Bauer, who was an influential protégé of Hilla Rebay, the first director of the Museum of Non-Objective Art, was introduced to Maude Kerns’s work through Rolph Scarlett. The documentary will be shown on Saturday, February 3, from 1 – 2 pm.
