Our Star, The Sun! (JR Ranger Program)

10AM | Interpretive Center @ Sunset Bay Campground

Come learn about our nearest star: The Sun! Learn about stars, how the Sun works, and get an up-close look at the Sun safely with a special telescope. We will be able to see sunspots and other surface features. Everyone is welcome, but 12-year-olds and under must have an adult.

Night Sky Photography Workshop

6-7:30 PM | Hands-On Workshop @ Shore Acres

Come learn the ins and outs of taking great night sky photos. This workshop is hands on so please bring a camera if you have one. If not, you can still take this workshop and get some great information. Prior signup required as space is limited. Email Ken: Kenneth.Page@oprd.oregon.gov

How Humanity Finds our Way in the Dark

Join Jennifer Godfrey (NASA Ambassador) in the Shore Acres Gardens to talk about constellations, and navigation. How did we find our way in the dark before computers, GPS, and even compasses? Star Party starts after program. We strongly recommend coming to the program if you attend the star party as this gives you the perfect amount of time for your eyes to adjust to the darkness as the sun sets.

Jellyfish: The Alien Next Door (guided hike)

6-7 PM | Coastal Hike @ Shore Acres Observation Building

These ancient animals have roamed the seas for half a billion years. Find out more about them on this guided coastal hike. Meet at the Observation Building. Relatively flat hike, about 1 mile.

Crash Landing on Earth (guided hike)

10AM | Meet at Interp Center @ Sunset Bay Campground

Imagine you’ve just arrived on Earth with your guide and find all kinds of life here. But what is it and how does it work? How does our ecosystem function and what makes it unique? Meet at the Interpretive Center and walk the Bog Trail with a ranger. Short 1 mile trail, but steep in some areas.

Saturday Night Star Party

Final star party if festival. Join us for a guided tour of the night sky in the Shore Acres Gardens. Rangers and volunteers will have telescopes for the public. Program includes constellation tour.

Please note: Parking Permit is $10 per vehicle and required to park in the Shore Acres day use parking lot.

The work done at the Alton Baker Native Plant Nursery (NPN) protects and enhances the diversity of native plant communities within the City of Eugene natural areas and restoration sites by producing genetically local native plant material. It provides the community an opportunity to learn about the value of native plants through volunteer activities and internship opportunities. Please join us on Friday afternoons!

Critical mass is a worldwide movement where people who ride bikes gather once a month to bike together in a festive and radically pro bike movement. We ride through the streets of Eugene for about 1 and 1/2 hours and then end the ride with a social hour/mega dance party.

From sold-out shows in Eugene comes SHORTCUTERIE, a night of wild short films snatched from national (and international!) film fests, emphasizing up-and-coming, off-the-wall auteurs. Turtlenecked local filmmakers Michael Angier and Rince Turrell II Jr. serve up the films in five enticing categories.

This platter of cinematic "small bites" contains a little something for everybody-- ponderous thinkers, fluffy trifles, some with acid undertones, some more earthy, all meant to whet your appetite for DIY creation in your own creative endeavors.

Entry is free, donations open. Berets and other snooty accoutrement are highly encouraged.

The Corvallis Outdoor Farmers Markets operate every Saturday and Wednesday until the day before Thanksgiving, with a bonus market on Dec. 6.

What’s in season varies from week to week and is influenced by weather and production methods, including the tall greenhouses called “high tunnels” that some farmers use.

Albany Farmers' Market, believed to be the oldest continuous outdoor farmers' market in Oregon, is in its 48th season.

Markets continue through the Saturday before Thanksgiving, with a Dec. 13 bonus market capping the season.

You're invited to the Kennedy Middle School Emergency Water Station Demonstration Event

Mark your calendars! On Saturday, September 27, Eugene Water & Electric Board (EWEB) and Eugene School District 4j are holding a ribbon cutting and demonstration event at a new Emergency Water Station site. The station is located at Kennedy Middle School in the northeast corner of the parking area (see map below).

After a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m., the public is invited to fill water containers and learn how the emergency water station operates. Attendees will:
- Receive a free 3-gallon emergency water storage container – one per family while supplies last! 
- Participate in operating the emergency water station from filling to sanitizing. 
- Learn how our community is preparing for emergencies and how to get prepared at home.
- Enjoy family activities like coloring and water storage container decorating. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring a wagon or grocery cart as a 3-gallon water container weighs 25 pounds when filled and will be difficult to carry.
