Homes for Good is developing a new affordable housing complex on the corner of 6th and Oak Street in Eugene.
The Market District Commons will have commercial space on the ground floor and fifty units of affordable housing above. Fifteen of the units will be set aside for homeless veterans and people with disabilities.
Jacob Fox, executive director of the Homes for Good Housing Agency, says this downtown location is ideal.
“Those affordable housing units will serve low-wage workers downtown who want to live in close proximity to their employment,” says Fox.
He adds the building will also be energy efficient. Their green standards include retaining and filtering storm water on-site and providing high-efficiency and low-cost appliances.
Construction of the housing complex is expected to be complete by fall of 2020.
