Wait List For Central Oregon Housing Voucher Program To Open

Housing Works

Housing Works is the affordable housing provider in Central Oregon. As KLCC’s Tiffany Eckert reports, the agency has announced the yearly wait list for Section 8 housing vouchers will open for five days next week.

Low-income residents of Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook counties are encouraged to apply for rent assistance through the Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Lesly Gonzalez is the Director at Housing Works. She says there are two preferences for vouchers this year. The first is for residents who live, work or have been called to work in the area.

“The other preference we have is specific for those that are disabled and homeless. And we were awarded 40 mainstream vouchers—and so this preference allows us to fill that need.”

This year’s on-line application process will open Monday, January 13th and close Friday, January 17th. Each year, the list begins anew so everyone must re-apply and names are chosen at random. Gonzalez says Gonzalez says for help filling out applications, Housing Works staff will be at locations in Redmond and Bend.
