Priority Given To Local Wildfire Victims On New Housing Waitlist

Brian Bull

McKenzie River Corridor residents displaced by last year’s Holiday Farm Fire have some new housing options available starting today.

By the time fire crews contained and mopped up the fire, more than 400 homes were destroyed. Many residents have since been put up in temporary homes and hotel rooms across the Eugene-Springfield area.

Now Matt McRae, Lane County’s long-term recovery manager for the Holiday Farm Fire, says there’s 65 units available at the Hayden Bridge Landing in Springfield, and Sarangin Eugene.

“Those who lost their primary dwelling during the wildfire will have priority access to this housing," McRae told KLCC.  "This is a huge opportunity to get some of the people who are in very temporary shelters into more permanent housing at least for a year or more.”

Resources and Information:

Homes for Good is heading the project, its waitlist closes February 9th. McRae says FEMA has also approved some short-term housing upriver for those wanting to return to the area.

A Lane County official says all people who feel they might qualify for the Wildfire Survivor Preference must apply through the Wildfire Recovery Help Line (541)682-FIRE (3473) or email: WildfireRecoveryHelp@LaneCountyOR.gov
