Oregonians Can Legally Buy Edible Marijuana Products As Of June 2nd

The Daily Chronicle

As of Thursday June 2nd Oregonians can legally purchase marijuana edibles. They will be available to recreational pot users 21 and older in marijuana dispensaries across the state.

Food products sold at dispensaries may contain no more than 15 milligrams of THC, the chemical in pot that results in a “high.”

Andre Ourso is with the state’s Medical Marijuana Program. He says edibles look like regular food.

Ourso: “It could look like maybe a candy bar, pieces of chocolate or caramel, even candy, so long as the items are not attractive to minors and don’t resemble anything like a cartoon character or brightly colored items.”

Ourso says edibles must be sold in child-safe packaging. He also says eating THC affects each person differently.

Ourso: “If marijuana is vaped or smoke the effect is almost immediate. As with edibles it may take anywhere from 90 minutes up to 4 hours to start feeling the effects.”

Ourso urges users to start with a low dose, like a third of an edible product, and to consume it slowly.

Consumers will also be able to buy pre-filled containers of marijuana extract.
