Eugene locals gathered today in front of the Federal Court House to protest gun violence in the United States, following the fatal Texas shooting earlier this week.
“It makes the headlines when these mass shootings happen which, unfortunately, are all too common in America," says Charlie McKenna. He's with Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
"But what most people don’t realize is, 93 Americans are killed every day with firearms and so our cause is bigger than just trying to reduce the number of mass shootings, we’re trying to reduce the gun violence across the board.”
McKenna takes issue with the way President Trump responded to the Texas shooting. Trump praised the men with guns who went after the shooter and blamed mental illness for the shooter’s actions.
McKenna says their organization will continue to fight for stricter gun laws at the national, state, and local level.
