Debaters research and prepare arguments both for and against a given topic. Coach Keith Eddins says this has practical applications.

“They learn to see things from both sides which is a good skill to have these days.”

This will be Aubra Scott-Hinkle’s first national event. She qualified for three events, including world schools debate – a new style made up of students from different teams competing together.

Meanwhile partners Julian Bellavita and McKenzie Carrier and partners Katrina Carrier and Daisy Hagen are competing in the more traditional policy debate. This will be the second national competition for all four.

The 2019 National Speech and Debate Championships will be held June 16th -21st in Dallas, Texas.
