Eugene Will Close Segment of South Riverfront Bike Path For 2 Years

City of Eugene

A segment of Eugene’s riverfront bike path will be closed for two years as the city creates a new park. The closureis expected to begin in about a month.

Brian Richardson is with the City of Eugene. He says the south bank path will be closed just south of EWEB plaza and just north of the 8th and Hilyard connection. He says there will be major construction associated with the new riverfront park, and the closure is for public safety.

”So, once this is complete, we’re going to have this new downtown riverfront park.” Richardson says,  “We’re going to have a new path in and through this area. So, there’s going to be a new connection and feel, a new experience really for folks as they go down the path, being in the new park as well as have that connection right there with the river as well.”

Richardson says, the city would like people to detour through Alton Baker Park on the north side of the Willamette River during the 2 year closure. He says the EWEB plaza and bridges will remain open and accessible.
