A new task force for Lane County’s 70 parks needs community members.

Following last year’s adoption of the first update in 30 years to the Parks Master Plan, commissioners also want a group to research and recommend funding options.

"Lot of people aren’t aware that Lane County parks do not receive any property tax funding," says county spokesperson Devon Ashbridge.

"Their funding comes primarily from the fees that we pay: day passes, annual passes, or if we reserve a campsite. Y’know, how can be provide parks with a more stable outlook, so that we can start making those investments called for in the Master Plan?”

Ashbridge says those wanting to be a community representative on the Parks Funding Task Force don’t have to be parks and rec experts.  But they must be 18 or older, and full-time residents of Lane County.

Applications are due January 15th
