After a tumultuous year, Eugene 4J is clarifying how the school district operates and what it expects from its superintendent. It comes as the district starts its search for a new leader.

The school board will use a committee of its own members and a search firm to find the district's new leader.

The district says auditing challenges were caused by staff turnover and new technology.

The board voted to enter final contract negotiations with Colt Gill, the former superintendent of Bethel School District and the former director of the Oregon Department of Education.

In a press release shared Friday, Oregon Gov.-elect Tina Kotek announced plans for staff changes in the education department as she prepares to take over this month. Kotek also announced the upcoming retirement of the Oregon Department of Education’s top official, Colt Gill, at the end of this year’s legislative session.
