Springfield District Delay's First Day Of School Due To Fire

Wikipedia

Due to fires in the area causing evacuations and a reduction in air quality, the Springfield School District has decided to delay the start of the year to September 21st for all its students.

The district is working to provide resources such as food and shelter, as part of efforts to provide relief to the community.

The fire comes on the heels of preparing for a school year during a global pandemic.

Kindergarten through 3rd grade will return to in-person instruction in a staggered start with K-1 starting September 21st, 2nd grade on September 28th and 3rd grade on October 5th, if conditions allow.

The end of the school year and previously scheduled breaks will not change, with the last day of school set for June 17th.

Technology distribution has been canceled for the rest of the week. Currently, it has been rescheduled for the following dates and times:

High School (THS/SHS): Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

High School (A3): Wednesday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

High School (GHS): Wednesday-Friday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Elementary: Wednesday, 9 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.

Middle School: Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

New Springfield students enrolled in SPSOnline: Wednesday, 2 to 5 p.m., Brattain School, 425 10th St.

Students needing access to Wi-Fi can check out devices Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Friday, Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Technology Department, 180 D St.
