Oregon Community Foundation announced today it is giving $40 million in state-funded grants to summer enrichment programs.
Priority for the 40 million dollars of Summer Learning Grants will be for programs serving K-12 students from communities of color, low-income families and under-resourced rural communities. All of which have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
The aim of these grants is to address the social, emotional and educational toll on students because of the pandemic.
“All of them have been impacted by the stress, by the anxiety, by the changes in schedules,” said Belle Cantor, Senior Program Officer of Education. "So, having this opportunity to be in community based programming is critical for them to be successful as they go back to school in the fall.”
An additional $1.2 million will go toward programs that support parents, play groups and kindergarten readiness for children under five.
In order for programs to be ready for summer, the grants will be awarded on a rolling basis throughout the spring. More information to apply for funds can be found here.
