A fire that burned nearly 50 acres at the Howard Buford Recreation Area was caused by sparks from a mower Thursday, according to investigators. The Oregon Department of Forestry, in cooperation with Lane County Parks, confirmed it was accidental.
The mowing was being done to remove invasive plants. The park, which is home to Mount Pisgah, will re-open tomorrow [Tuesday] after being closed for 5 days. The fire, burned within the park’s Eastern Meadowlark Unit. The public was evacuated as crews battled the blaze.
Trail 46 between trails 6 and 2 will remain closed. Trail 6 will remain closed between the Eastern Trailhead and its junction with Trail 56.
Parks Manager Brett Henry asks visitors to Mount Pisgah to respect the closures in and around the burn area.
