When the Democrats take leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives next year, Oregon’s 4th District Congressman Peter DeFazio is expected to be chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
The Springfield resident has been on the committee since he first entered Congress in 1987. He’s been ranking member since 2014. How does it feel to contemplate this leadership position?
“It feels like a huge responsibility. I’m a little tense. I’m not sleeping real well. Things are running through my mind that we can do all the time, you know oversight we need to do, bills and plans we need to move forward.”
DeFazio has plans around how to strengthen rail and mass transit across the country, including a faster train between Eugene and Portland. He wants to write what he calls a 21st century infrastructure plan and strengthen oversight of the Trump Administration.
