People Complain Of Possible Voter Intimidation In Thurston

Anonymous

People who say they witnessed a group of Trump supporters intimidating voters at a Thurston ballot box Sunday spoke at last night’s Springfield City council meeting.

Xia Wang was one of several who observed a Trump Rally at the Lively Park Swim Center, where there’s an official ballot drop site. She says trucks were blocking access  to people trying to drive into the parking lot to deposit their ballots. She said an SPD officer was there.

“The police officer didn’t say anything to stop the behavior, so actually about 45 minutes of block the traffic of people driving to drop the ballots.”

A coalition of rights groups told Oregon officials in a letter they had received complaints on a hotline about the incidents. One complaint said Trump supporters with weapons boxed in their car when they tried to drive up to the ballot box.

Organizers of the Patriotic Trump/Make Oregon Red Rally had obtained permits for the gathering at the park in Springfield and planned a vehicle parade. Lane County Elections officials say they have received no complaints about voter intimidation at the rally.

Officials say anyone who experiences voter intimidation should contact law enforcement.
