Rachael McDonald

Lane County has its first case of COVID-19. The announcement came Tuesday at a press conference.

Dr. Patrick Leudtke  is Lane County Public Health officer. He says the person is a 69-year-old man who lives in a private residence in Eugene / Springfield.

“Based on this current information that we have at present and with more information coming, we believe that this is community transmission within the metropolitan area of our county. Currently the patient is at home following Lane County recommendations and is medically stable.”

Leudtke says they are reaching out to individuals who may have been in contact with the man. He says they’ll share information about any public contact exposure points with the community. The man experienced symptoms on March 1st and a test was administered last Friday.

The Oregon Health Authority announced 18 new coronavirus cases in the state Tuesday.
