Springfield School Board member Nicole De Graff unexpectedly announced her plans to resign at a school board meeting Tuesday.

Springfield School District leaders had their first chance to weigh in on next school year’s budget Thursday. If approved, this budget would eliminate nearly 34 positions.

Springfield Public Schools says it will need to eliminate nearly 33.5 positions to balance next year's budget. The draft spending plan was released on Friday.

The Board will narrow candidates next month and hopes to bring finalists to the district for in-person interviews in early June.

Eugene 4J School District leaders say the tens of millions of dollars in reductions they announced earlier this year did not save as much money as they hoped. Actual costs also came in higher than leaders forecasted – leaving 4J with an anticipated $16 million gap.
