On the night of Sept. 7, 2020, a series of massive wildfires began their trail of havoc across Oregon.

By the time the sun–veiled by a thick, acrid haze of smoke–set the next day, the scope of the devastation was only just beginning to come into focus.

The widespread destruction was shocking, even to those whose job it is to respond to such disasters.

And the fires forever changed the lives of those who lived through them.

Known collectively as the “Labor Day Fires,” the blazes included the Holiday Farm Fire in Lane County, the Beachie Creek Fire in Marion and Linn Counties, the Echo Mountain Fire in Lincoln County, the Archie Creek Fire in Douglas County, and the Almeda Fire in Jackson County.

With the help of our news partners, KLCC is bringing you stories to mark the anniversary of these historic fires.
