KLCC has rescheduled its virtual forum on racism in Oregon schools, which will be held Thursday, October 1 from 6-7:30pm. 

Community members will be able to listen and ask questions about school racism.

Eugene 4J Superintendent Gustavo Balderas won National Superintendent of the Year last night at the National Conference on Education in San Diego. He is the first Latino to receive the honor.

At Wednesday night’s Eugene 4J school board meeting, board members unanimously approved a contract renewal for Ridgeline Montessori Public Charter School.


After many years of late night meetings, the Eugene 4J school board is switching things up. At the beginning of 2020, they will start an hour earlier on a trial basis.

The Eugene 4J School Board unanimously approved a revised health policy at Wednesday’s school board meeting. The policy will provide free menstrual products in all female and most gender-neutral bathrooms in middle schools and high schools.

After starting with 15 potential candidates, the Eugene School Board has selected Jim Torrey to fill a vacancy in Position 6.

A petition drive is directed at the 4J School District, following presentations by a medical group as part of the district’s sex ed curriculum.  As KLCC’s Brian Bull reports, petitioners want it barred from future presentations.

The Eugene 4J School District is hosting the last of their community forums this Wednesday that will help decide the future of the district’s buildings.

After years of planning and months of community feedback, the board is considering a bond measure for the November ballot that would update numerous 4J schools.

The Eugene 4J School Board has given high marks to its district superintendent, and approved a one-time fix for its instructional hours. 

Earlier this week, the board commended Gustavo Balderus  on his second year, in areas like student achievement, leadership, and managing resources.

Maya Rabasa says she’s a multilingual, multicultural immigrant from Mexico, who’s done interpretation for Spanish families and backed arts education.

People running for Eugene’s 4J School Board began formally filing for their candidacy this week.  Among them is Jerry Rosiek, who’s seeking position number 3.

This year, for the first time, all Oregon schools have the funding to offer full-day kindergarten. In Eugene's 4J district, teachers and parents have embraced the change.

Ten candidates for contested elections to Eugene school board positions will tell City Club members about the skills and experiences they can offer their districts. They are also invited to describe the issues they see as most significant and how they would seek to resolve them.

Of the three Bethel School Board positions up for election this year, only one is contested. Blake Holton is running for Position 6 against Ginger Poage, who has served since 1983.
