With summer in full swing and students on vacation, Lane Transit District is preparing for a potential increase in passengers during the pandemic. But LTD is reminding residents to only take essential trips.

Lane Transit District will resume regular Sunday bus service beginning June 7. Passengers are asked to only take essential trips and wear face coverings over their nose and mouth.

On Tuesday, Oregon U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio announced he has secured $76,000 in grant funding for improvements to Lane Transit District’s RideSource program.

The goal of the funding is to improve health outcomes and decrease health disparities experienced by disadvantaged communities. This includes senior citizens, people with disabilities, and low-income individuals.

On Wednesday, Lane Transit District held a virtual public hearing on its proposed budget for next year. 

 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, LTD is projecting a $12 million reduction in employer and employee payroll taxes, fares, special services, and group pass program over the next year. Revenue that supports more than 80% of LTD’s annual operations.

As the pandemic continues to impact the economy, Lane Transit District is also taking revenue hits. LTD is making staff reductions in order to balance their operating budget.

Starting Monday, all Lane Transit District employees and vendors will be required to have their temperature taken before entering a District building or facility.

On Wednesday, Lane Transit District board members were supposed hold a public hearing and listen to a staff presentation on a modified proposal to update bus routes. But the new route proposal for Eugene and Springfield has been put on hold.

Beginning Thursday, Lane Transit District is requiring all passengers wear a face mask covering their nose and mouth.

On Saturday, Lane Transit District will instrument additional changes in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. These changes will be in effect until further notice.

Lane Transit District announced Tuesday they will operate on a Saturday schedule for 6 days of the week, starting March 23. LTD is trying to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Many questions and concerns surround Lane Transit District’s plans to potentially restructure bus routes in Eugene and Springfield. Today, one city council candidate stumped at a bus stop to discuss the proposed changes.

Lane Transit District will not be providing bus service to the Eugene Airport after November 30th. The one year pilot program between LTD, Lane Community College and the City of Eugene was a response to long-standing community interest.

Eugene drivers may experience delays at the 6th and Garfield intersection the next two weeks. Sunday, construction continues on the West Eugene EmX project.

The new Veterans Affairs Medical Clinic opens to the public Monday (today). In an effort to get vets the care they need, Lane Transit District is offering free service to the facility. Passengers simply need to tell their bus driver they are going to the new V-A Clinic to receive an LTD day pass. Andy Vobora is the Director of Customer Service and Planning for LTD.

Lane Transit District wants to devote more than half of its bus fleet to hybrid and all-electric by next year. A small group of community members and environmental activists gathered at the busy Eugene bus station Tuesday to show support of the move.

Lane Transit District has selected their next General Manager.

Aurora “A.J.” Jackson has been chosen to lead LTD. She was picked from a three person candidate pool. Jackson started her career as a bus operator working her way up the ranks to management. LTD Board President Gary Wildish says her ascent was a strong selling point.

Lane Transit District received a large gift Friday from the federal government for its Em-X bus extension to West Eugene.

A bus driver who worked for Lane Transit District since 2003 was arrested Thursday for calling in a bomb threat. Traffic was shut down traffic for more than an hour near the University of Oregon.

Lane Transit District is considering expanding its routes in the Eugene-Springfield area. Ideas include longer hours and possible bus service to the airport.

LTD is in talks with the City of Eugene about providing bus service to the airport. Russ Arnold, Marketing Manager with LTD says this is still just in discussion. He says the agency has heard from more than 2-thousand people with suggestions for improving service.

EmX Apportioned $50.54 Million From Federal Government

Lane Transit District has received the final piece of funding from the federal government for the West Eugene Em-X Expansion. The Federal Transportation Administration has apportioned the remaining $50.54 million needed to continue the project.  LTD Director of Customer Services Andy Vobora says they were fortunate to get the funding they requested because there is a lot of competition at the federal level.

UPDATE: Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014 11:20 A.M.:

The Egan Warming Centers confirmed they are activated for tonight, Saturday. But they will NOT be open on Sunday and Monday nights because the overnight temperatures will not be cold enough.

Those needing to get to a Warming Center tonight can ride LTD for free - just tell the driver you need to get to a warming center.  St Vincent de Paul will provide shuttle service from the First Christian parking lot behind the church to other sites from about 5:30 pm- 8:30 pm.
