Two veteran Oregon photographers--Gary Tepfer of Eugene and Rich Bergeman of Corvallis--are teaming up for an exhibit at White Lotus Gallery featuring color and black-and-white photographs of arid territories from Oregon's High Desert to Asia's Altai Mountains.

Both photographers, working independently, have been exploring desert environments for decades, and while they share a love for the spare elegance of the land, their interpretation of that land offers viewers some engaging contrasts.

Tepfer is known for his striking color images from the American Southwest, Eastern Oregon and the steppes of Mongolia and Siberia, regions he has visited many times over the past four decades. “I want to capture that aspect of the natural world that stands apart from human existence,” Tepfer says. “But the locations to which I am drawn are often the same places that are the most rich in the ritual artifacts of ancient peoples.”

Bergeman, on the other hand, is a black-and-white photographer whose most recent work has focused on that portion of the Great Basin that lies within Oregon, especially remnants of the paleolakes that dot the region.

“I've always wondered about all those 'lakes' I'd see marked on maps that didn't really exist as bodies of water,” he says. “A little research taught me they were footprints of the great inland seas that once covered the area 10,000 years ago. Intrigued, I began to search for them and find ways to dramatize this curious evidence of the past.”

Both photographers have work in several private and public collections and over the years have been published in books and periodicals.

Photography at Oregon’s 47th Annual Exhibit and Auction is nearly upon us! We’ve already received an impressive collection of print donations from noted photographers locally and nationally. So far, contributions include prints from artists such as Christopher Burkett, Christopher Landis, Ken Hawkins and Brian Lanker, as well as outstanding works from many exceptional local and regional artists, such as Michael Z. Taylor, Barbora Bakalarova, Sarah Grew, Walt O’Brien, and Doremus Scudder, just to name a very few.

As in years past, there will be three Auction Exhibits featuring prints from the Online Auction at Dot Dotson's Gallery in Eugene, one each in May, June and July. This year, the online auction and the three exhibits will run concurrently. You can view a select number of photographs at Dot Dotson's each month and view and bid on the entire selection of over 85 photographs online at auctria.events/PAO2025.

There will be an Opening Reception from 5-6 p.m., complete with wine and hors d’oeuvres. We hope to see you there.

The exhibit will run all of May, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. till 1:00 p.m.

The Online Auction itself will be open for bids starting May 1st and continuing through July 31st. The entire selection of photographs will be online.

We are looking forward to an active turnout for the 2025 Auction! Remember, that all auction proceeds go toward promoting and sponsoring photography exhibits and events by PAO, as they have for the past 45 years. Our success is directly due to the generosity of many fine photographers donating work, giving back to the medium we all love, as well as the generosity and commitment of our bidders.

Come on down to the Farmers Market Pavilion on May 30th from 3-9pm to see musicians, dancers, poets, graphic artists, painters, fabricators, and much more! The Concrete Delta open the Tipping Forward Summer Concert Series on the patio at 16 Tons Café in South Eugene on May 30, 6PM.

This is a free event but tables of 4 may be reserved in advance for $20.00 by dropping by the cafe and signing up.

All the money goes to the bands, hence "tipping forward."

Critical mass is a worldwide movement where people who ride bikes gather once a month to bike together in a festive and radically pro bike movement. We ride through the streets of Eugene for about 1 and 1/2 hours and then end the ride with a social hour/mega dance party.

The Walterville Grange will be hosting its annual Play Festival on Friday, May 30!
The first play will start at 7:00 PM. 
There will be two plays this year. 
Crow Grange will be our guest Grange presenting their play along with Walterville.  
Be sure to get there early to get a good seat, plus you will have some extra time to visit with your family, friends, and neighbors before and after the plays!

After the plays, there will be refreshments served (egg salad sandwiches and the desserts – yum!). 

This will be held at the Walterville Grange Community Hall, located at 39259 Camp Creek Road, in Walterville.  If you haven’t been to the Hall lately, you can check out the updates we have made to it.  As usual, we will be collecting nonperishable food items for the Upriver Food Bank. Join the Lincoln City Pride Committee in welcoming sapphic folk americana rock artist, Sarah Adams, in a night of live music to kick off the month of PRIDE in Lincoln City! The concert will be held at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, May 30th at 7 PM, doors at 6:30 PM.
Sarah’s performances captivate audiences through her soulful voice, honest storytelling, and dynamic musical range, weaving between high-energy folk rock and poignant Americana ballads. Drawing inspiration from artists like Brandi Carlile, Eva Cassidy, and Sara Bareilles, Sarah shares deeply personal and relatable stories, making her live shows a powerful and unforgettable experience. The evening will also feature local artist Pat Magada and his band (@patmagadamusic). Tickets are available now, $15 advance or $20 at the door.

Having performed in 18 states - and counting, across thousands of miles, Steph Kay has performed over 1000 shows in their career. As a solo artist, Steph performs covers from bands such as The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident, Phish, as well as original music and improvisational melodies.

Steph is currently fronting Eugene's progressive rock band "Drive to Space", has also spent time in the past performing nationwide with the St. Louis-based Widespread Panic tribute “Mom's Kitchen”, Summercamp Music Festival's VIP Tent alums; “Easy Riders”, with the Grateful Dead tributes “Another Dead Cover Band”, “The Jerryatrics”, and “Token Rhymes”, as well as Eugene's own “Left On Wilson” and “Blue Lotus”.

Steph has also shared stages with notable artists such as Victor Wooten, Vince Herman, Vinnie Amico and Al Schnier (of “moe.”), Jason Hann (of SCI), Sam Holt, Ike Willis and Ray White (of Frank Zappa's band), and Jay Cobb Anderson (of “Fruition”) just to name a few!

More obscure acts that Steph had an active role in are, but not limited to, Southern Illinois' prog rock bands “Defined Perception”, “Copecetic”, and the Chicago-based “Spread”.

Simply put, Steph likes to play, and has spent the last 26 years doing so!
