Everyone Village

Many of the people most dependent on income from redeeming bottles and cans struggle to get those items to the places where they can turn them in for money.A new project in Eugene will bring a mobile bottle drop to the people and places it's needed most.

A celebration was held Tuesday at a transitional housing site in Eugene. Roughly 30 people showed at Everyone Village to highlight the work of high schoolers from 16 Lane County schools, as well as the 16 shelters delivered or near completion from last year.

Eugene’s largest transitional housing site is still growing, nearly two years after it opened.

A program at Lane Community College that teaches high schoolers trade skills by building shelters for the homeless has wrapped up its first year.

Across the U.S., there’s a growing shortage of workers in skilled trades. The nation’s carpenters, electricians, and plumbers are getting older and hanging up their hard hats for good. Meanwhile, across Oregon, homeless people are struggling to find safe and secure shelter. A new program at Lane Community College aims to alleviate both those problems, called “Constructing a Brighter Future.”
