The approach of a New Year often makes us reflect on the past one. In the case of KLCC news, there were many major stories, touching on politics to disasters to the arts.  We revisit some of the sounds and voices from just some of the top local stories for 2018.

On November 7, almost all the votes were counted, and we learned the names of winners and losers. The decisions about whether to adopt new laws were made. What do the patterns of wins and losses tell us about the temper of the community, the state, and the nation? What might we expect under the new and/or continuing leadership? What challenges remain?

Voters of the 4th Congressional District have re-elected Peter DeFazio for a 17th term in the U.S. House of Representatives. KLCC’s Tiffany Eckert was at the Democratic watch party Tuesday night when the Congressman’s win was announced.

Lane County voters elected progressive candidate Heather Buch to the Board of Commissioners. She challenged incumbent Gary Williams to represent eastern Lane County on the board.

The University of Oregon hosted a “Get Out the Vote” rally Monday in the final hours of the campaign season.

In anticipation of the upcoming elections, the City Club of Eugene welcomes Oregon Senator Ron Wyden to discuss Election Security, the part that dark money plays, and how we may prevent future elections from being hacked. This was an opportunity to learn more about how future elections can become more secure.

This year’s midterm elections are going to be “remarkable”, according to U.S. Senator Ron Wyden.

The Oregon Democrat says he’s seeing high voter turnout in his state and elsewhere, as people weigh issues more seriously than he’s seen in previous midterms.

Election officials in Lane County say if you’re still aiming to get your ballot in by the voting deadline, to either seek an official dropbox or to stop by their office. 

As the mid-term election approaches, Oregon’s U.S. Senator Ron Wyden is talking up his proposed legislation to require a paper ballot for every election in the U.S.
