Starting Wednesday, the Catholic Community Services of Lane County will give a share of $100,000 in emergency relief money to Lane County evacuees. The group received the money from the United Way Wildfire Community Response Funds.
In Eugene and Springfield, many grassroots efforts have formed to help those affected by the Holiday Farm Fire. Devon Ashbridge with the Lane County Emergency Operations Center said it’s been incredible to see the generosity. She noted one of the best ways to help is by donating money through United Way of Lane County or the Red Cross.
Advocates say summer is a time when food anxiety is particularly high for struggling families. And the pandemic has only made matters worse. Now, some rural food programs are getting an unexpected boost to provide supplemental meals throughout the season.
