About your hosts

Jeaux Bartlett (they/them or xe/xem) is a writer and teacher living in Eugene, Oregon. Jeaux has published several books and online courses focused on personal growth and their work has appeared in the Register Guard, Lane Monthly, Rochester insider, Crossroads Chronicle, and Nature’s Wisdom amongst other publications.

Sunday evening volunteer host:

Heather McBride (she/her) is a content strategist at Adobe but has novelist aspirations. She’s been bookish since birth but got serious about her own writing when teaching composition at U of O.

Two veteran Oregon photographers--Gary Tepfer of Eugene and Rich Bergeman of Corvallis--are teaming up for an exhibit at White Lotus Gallery featuring color and black-and-white photographs of arid territories from Oregon's High Desert to Asia's Altai Mountains.

Both photographers, working independently, have been exploring desert environments for decades, and while they share a love for the spare elegance of the land, their interpretation of that land offers viewers some engaging contrasts.

Tepfer is known for his striking color images from the American Southwest, Eastern Oregon and the steppes of Mongolia and Siberia, regions he has visited many times over the past four decades. “I want to capture that aspect of the natural world that stands apart from human existence,” Tepfer says. “But the locations to which I am drawn are often the same places that are the most rich in the ritual artifacts of ancient peoples.”

Bergeman, on the other hand, is a black-and-white photographer whose most recent work has focused on that portion of the Great Basin that lies within Oregon, especially remnants of the paleolakes that dot the region.

“I've always wondered about all those 'lakes' I'd see marked on maps that didn't really exist as bodies of water,” he says. “A little research taught me they were footprints of the great inland seas that once covered the area 10,000 years ago. Intrigued, I began to search for them and find ways to dramatize this curious evidence of the past.”

Both photographers have work in several private and public collections and over the years have been published in books and periodicals.

Photography at Oregon’s 47th Annual Exhibit and Auction is nearly upon us! We’ve already received an impressive collection of print donations from noted photographers locally and nationally. So far, contributions include prints from artists such as Christopher Burkett, Christopher Landis, Ken Hawkins and Brian Lanker, as well as outstanding works from many exceptional local and regional artists, such as Michael Z. Taylor, Barbora Bakalarova, Sarah Grew, Walt O’Brien, and Doremus Scudder, just to name a very few.

As in years past, there will be three Auction Exhibits featuring prints from the Online Auction at Dot Dotson's Gallery in Eugene, one each in May, June and July. This year, the online auction and the three exhibits will run concurrently. You can view a select number of photographs at Dot Dotson's each month and view and bid on the entire selection of over 85 photographs online at auctria.events/PAO2025.

The first installment of the PAO Auction Exhibit opens Friday, May 2nd
at Dot Dotson’s Gallery, 1668 Willamette St. Eugene, OR 97401

There will be an Opening Reception from 5-6 p.m., complete with wine and hors d’oeuvres. We hope to see you there.

The exhibit will run all of May, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. till 1:00 p.m.

The Online Auction itself will be open for bids starting May 1st and continuing through July 31st. The entire selection of photographs will be online.

We are looking forward to an active turnout for the 2025 Auction! Remember, that all auction proceeds go toward promoting and sponsoring photography exhibits and events by PAO, as they have for the past 45 years. Our success is directly due to the generosity of many fine photographers donating work, giving back to the medium we all love, as well as the generosity and commitment of our bidders.

The Shedd welcomes five-time Grammy winner Victor Wooten and The Wooten Brothers back to Jaqua Concert Hall for another evening of their fantastic mashup of jazz, funk, soul, R&B, rock, and bluegrass. For more than four decades, the Wooten Brothers have been hailed as some of the most innovative musicians to exist. The Corvallis Outdoor Farmers Markets operate every Saturday and Wednesday until the day before Thanksgiving, with a bonus market on Dec. 6.

Find fruits and vegetables, plants, or cut flowers, gathered and cultivated mushrooms, or are raising meat, poultry, eggs or honey.

What’s in season varies from week to week and is influenced by weather and production methods, including the tall greenhouses called “high tunnels” that some farmers use.
