Just as every person diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease is different, support groups vary in format, group dynamics, and topics discussed, and also include specialty groups for care partners, newly diagnosed, and young onset.

This gathering of peers whose lives have been touched by Parkinson’s meet monthly to share information, provide mutual support, and learn coping skills. It’s a safe place to get together with people who understand.

Sam Bush, a pioneering force in progressive bluegrass, has spent over five decades redefining the genre with his signature mandolin style and genre-blending approach. Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, he was immersed in music from an early age, influenced by his father’s fiddle playing and inspired by artists like Bill Monroe and the Osborne Brothers. By his teens, Bush had already won a three national championships in the junior division of the National Oldtime Fiddler’s Contest and recorded his first album, Poor Richard’s Almanac.
In 1966, at just 18, he turned down an offer to join country star Roy Acuff’s band, choosing instead to follow a more experimental path. He joined the Bluegrass Alliance in 1969, where he first played with future collaborators. The following year, Bush and his bandmates formed New Grass Revival, igniting a revolution in bluegrass by incorporating elements of rock, jazz, reggae, and improvisation. Despite initial resistance from traditionalists, the band gained a devoted following, toured with Leon Russell, and became a staple of the festival circuit. Bush’s innovative mandolin technique and boundary-pushing compositions helped solidify New Grass Revival’s legacy through the 1970s and 1980s.
Bush moved on from the band in 1989 after two decades, spending the next several years collaborating with Emmylou Harris’ Nash Ramblers and later Lyle Lovett. He earned multiple International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Mandolin Player of the Year awards and reconnected with Béla Fleck to tour with the Flecktones. In 1995, he embarked on a solo career, releasing acclaimed albums such as Glamour & Grits (1996) and Laps in Seven (2006), showcasing his signature mix of bluegrass, jam-band energy, and instrumental mastery.
We first got Sam Bush on stage here in Eugene back in 1998 at our first Twin Rivers Folklife Festival in 1998. Then again a couple of years ago…like 23 years later when he joined Béla Fleck on his My Bluegrass Heart stop at The Shedd in 2021. Great to have him out.

The Corvallis Outdoor Farmers Markets operate every Saturday and Wednesday until the day before Thanksgiving, with a bonus market on Dec. 6.

Find fruits and vegetables, plants, or cut flowers, gathered and cultivated mushrooms, or are raising meat, poultry, eggs or honey.

What’s in season varies from week to week and is influenced by weather and production methods, including the tall greenhouses called “high tunnels” that some farmers use.

Oran Mor Meadery will host the Umpqua Celtic Session on the 3rd Thursday of the month. The first regular session will be on 21 April at Oran Mor starting at 6 pm. Journey back to the vibrant world of 1950s New York with a Golden Age Broadway classic. This 1951 Tony award-winning musical follows the intertwining lives of ambitious gamblers, lovestruck showgirls, and pious missionaries. At the center of the action is a pair of crafty and endearing hustlers. Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson will bet on just about anything, from a small-time strudel contest to a big-time gamble about love. Sky attempts to woo the strait-laced Sarah Brown, as the colorful characters around them navigate their own romantic entanglements. With toe-tapping songs like “Luck Be a Lady” and “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat, Guys and Dolls will dazzle you with its high-stakes blend of humor and heart.

“Starcrawler are a rock band for a new generation. Best known for their explosive live shows, the 5-piece band consists of full-throttle frontwoman Arrow De Wilde, guitarist Henri Cash and brother Bill Cash on pedal steel/guitar, drummer Seth Carolina, and bassist Tim Franco. With two studio albums under their belts, their upward trajectory continues to roll full steam ahead in 2022 with the release of their brand-new single, “Roadkill.” Fully leaning into their own epic vision of a contemporary Hollywood Babylon, they’ve morphed into a modern day take on LA legends X, with a sprinkle of The Go-Go’s, a smattering of The Distillers and some Rolling Stones sleaze thrown in for good measure.
