Event Listings in Oregon

Photography at Oregon’s 47th Annual Exhibit and Auction is nearly upon us! We’ve already received an impressive collection of print donations from noted photographers locally and nationally. So far, contributions include prints from artists such as Christopher Burkett, Christopher Landis, Ken Hawkins and Brian Lanker, as well as outstanding works from many exceptional local and regional artists, such as Michael Z. Taylor, Barbora Bakalarova, Sarah Grew, Walt O’Brien, and Doremus Scudder, just to name a very few.

As in years past, there will be three Auction Exhibits featuring prints from the Online Auction at Dot Dotson's Gallery in Eugene, one each in May, June and July. This year, the online auction and the three exhibits will run concurrently. You can view a select number of photographs at Dot Dotson's each month and view and bid on the entire selection of over 85 photographs online at auctria.events/PAO2025.

The first installment of the PAO Auction Exhibit opens Friday, May 2nd
at Dot Dotson’s Gallery, 1668 Willamette St. Eugene, OR 97401

There will be an Opening Reception from 5-6 p.m., complete with wine and hors d’oeuvres. We hope to see you there.

The exhibit will run all of May, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. till 1:00 p.m.

The Online Auction itself will be open for bids starting May 1st and continuing through July 31st. The entire selection of photographs will be online.

We are looking forward to an active turnout for the 2025 Auction! Remember, that all auction proceeds go toward promoting and sponsoring photography exhibits and events by PAO, as they have for the past 45 years. Our success is directly due to the generosity of many fine photographers donating work, giving back to the medium we all love, as well as the generosity and commitment of our bidders.

The Shedd's Music & World Cultures program presents The Eugene Pipe & Drum band.

The Eugene Highlanders band began in 1953 under the direction of PM Hector Smith who served as pipe major for over fifty years. They continue in that spirit to keep the music flowing, bringing history alive and carrying bagpiping, highland drumming and dancing forward as a living art form. Playing at Highland Games and other Celtic events around the region and have proudly kept the Scottish tradition and history alive in Eugene for many years.
The Shedd’s MUSIC & WORLD CULTURES program offers a wide variety of cultural enrichment performances each year. All of these programs are entertaining for children and adults alike, while also having an educational underpinning to set the music in its cultural and historical context. We provide each participating teacher with a large, integrated curriculum packet that includes the words for the songs, vocabulary words, extra activities, reading suggestions, and more.

May 2025 Events at New Zone Gallery

In addition to the eclectic mix of contemporary and traditional art created by the New Zone members the New Zone Gallery, located in our beautiful space at 110 East 11th, will be hosting three special exhibits during the month of May.

JULIE WILLIAMS- “The Games We Play”

For Julie, art is play. She wants her work to spark joy, curiosity, and surprise - so the best compliment she can receive is, “Your art is so fun.”
The idea for this collection emerged as she retired from her psychology practice in the middle of the pandemic, a time of immense change and introspection. Collage is her medium of choice because it’s layered nature allows her to build complex compositions filled with hidden surprises. Each piece invites the viewer to look closer, to linger, and to continually discover something new. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, there’s another detail waiting to be found.
By embracing spontaneity, texture and unexpected connections, her work celebrates the playful and ever-evolving process of creation.

BARBARA ATEN - “Portraits of Animals”

Barbara‘s passionate love of animals began at an early age. She grew up in a family of seven people where there was always a cat or two roaming about. As a child, she would paint portraits of her “stuffies” lined up on the bed, and so her artistic journey began.
Painting animal portraits became a past time as she traveled both close to home and abroad, coming in contact with animals in their native habitat and bringing home pictures from which to paint her portraits.

In the Klausmeier Room: Pacific Rim Art Guild - “Look for the Light”

On display will be Pacific Rim Art Guild. They are a group of artists in the Eugene/Springfield area that seek to encourage one another in their artistic journeys, as well as finding ways to benefit other local nonprofit organizations through donations of art.

Eugene, OR – Be part of Eugene’s vibrant art scene during the May 2nd First Friday ArtWalk. Bike to the Farmers Market Pavilion (85 E 8th Ave), where you can pick up your ArtWalk Guide and shop the pop-up Artist Marketplace before exploring the many galleries and arts venues of downtown Eugene from 5:30-8:00pm. The monthly First Friday ArtWalk is presented by Lane Arts Council and is always free.

Farmers Market Pavilion Highlight: Reggae Show, 6:00pm-10:00pm
Programming for May will feature family-friendly reggae concert celebrating multicultural music designed to connect younger generations with foundational elders. Opening the event at 5pm we have Kunu Bearchum from Morning Star Creative kicking off the vibes, followed by an interactive children's reggae show from Grammy-nominated Aaron Nigel Smith, up next we have an energetic performance from Eugene’s very own Michael Leslie, then we welcome the legendary reggae artist Winston "Flames" Jarrett to the stage, with a late night dub showcase by Jubba White closing out the evening. Immerse yourself in the cultural richness of reggae music, honoring its origin & legacy while fostering unity across generations through the power of sound.
May is Bike Month: Lane Arts Council is collaborating with community partners Lane Council of Governments and Shift Community Cycles in Celebration of May is Bike month with some exciting and engaging bike activities. Biking to the event is encouraged.

What’s in season varies from week to week and is influenced by weather and production methods, including the tall greenhouses called “high tunnels” that some farmers use.

Albany Farmers' Market, believed to be the oldest continuous outdoor farmers' market in Oregon, is in its 48th season.

Markets continue through the Saturday before Thanksgiving, with a Dec. 13 bonus market capping the season.

The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition and 10 of their partners invite the public to participate in the 16th annual Natural Areas Celebration Week. Family-friendly events will take place daily from May 3 through May 11 to celebrate the bountiful natural areas in and around Corvallis.

The goal of Natural Areas Celebration Week is to foster community appreciation for our natural areas and to build commitment for expanding and restoring the open space of greater Corvallis.
